Gabriel Gab-Umoden Emerges as MarketingWorld’s CMO of the Week

The African Talent Company (TATC)’s Chief Marketing Officer, Gabriel Gab-Umoden, a dynamic marketing professional has been crowned as MarketingWorld’s CMO of the week, from June 17th to June 23rd 2024.

Appointed in January 2023 as the CMO of a pan-African recruitment and career development company, Gabriel has been responsible for leading the development and execution of the organization’s marketing strategies as well as driving growth and brand awareness across the diverse portfolio of brands and markets.

Also, in this capacity, he ensures that the marketing efforts are aligned with the organization’s business objectives and help them achieve their ambitious growth targets.

With over a decade of business marketing experience, Gabriel has played an integral role in transforming First Bank of Nigeria’s operational model. In 2012, he joined the nascent Nigerian e-commerce company, Konga, and played a leading role in establishing the brand as a local household name.

Before joining Ringier One Africa Media (ROAM), Gabriel played a crucial role on the Suburban FiberCo management team that successfully steered the acquisition and deployment of fibre optic media services into 5,000 homes – the largest deal of its kind in West Africa. Now at The African Talent Company (TATC), in his capacity as Group Marketing Head, Gabriel is currently exposed to constantly evolving job market dynamics and uses these insights to aid relevant product development, develop adequate customer acquisition & retention strategies, and decide on the appropriate brand voice for the group’s pan-African jobs businesses.

His career has provided him with vast exposure in IT, cross-functional marketing, retail, product development and strategic planning.

It is worth noting that Gabriel has been able to demonstrate a high level of leadership and teamwork skills throughout his career journey. His ability to convey a winning vision has resulted in better results on each of the projects he has worked on.

In terms of his academics, Gabriel holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent in the UK and a Master’s degree in Strategic Planning and Investment from Newcastle University in the UK.

Gabriel is passionate about creating enabling frameworks that foster growth and as well helping people and businesses achieve peak performance.

He is also committed to fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence within the marketing team, and to driving continuous improvement in their marketing strategies and tactics.

Hazel Chimhandamba Emerges as MarketingWorld’s CMO of the Week

Hollard Insurance’s Group Chief Marketing Officer, Hazel Chimhandamba, an astute marketer has been crowned as MarketingWorld’s CMO of the week, from June 17th to June 23rd 2024.

Passionate about leadership, people development, and using customer insights to develop relevant propositions for customers, Chimhandamba comes from the telecommunications company Cell, where she has been the executive head of marketing for telecommunications since 2019.

During her tenure, the brand was ranked as one of Kantar’s BrandZ’s Top 30 Most Valuable South African Brands for four consecutive years, despite tough market conditions.

Prior to Cell C, Chimhandamba served on the Outsurance executive committee. Also, at the Standard Bank Group before her time at Outsurance, she served various markets, including Ghana, Kenya, Zambia, Botswana, Mozambique and Mauritius, among others.

In the professional space, Chimhandamba has positioned herself as a digital and customer centric Commercial Executive and leader with more than 17 years of strategic marketing experience in South Africa and the rest of the African continent across various sectors such as telecommunications, banking, and insurance.

She has served on various executive committees in her career which has enabled her have a deep understanding of the profitable commercialisation of products and services in mobile telecommunications, fibre network operations, fintech, retail banking, corporate and investment banking, short-term insurance and life assurance.

She also had the opportunity to drive multinational brands and business solutions at different stages of their evolutionary cycles across diverse market segments and geographies.

In 2022, Chimhandamba clinched gold, silver and leader marketing awards for Cell C at the Direct Marketing Association of South Africa Assegai Awards, for a shared value campaign that also received recognition at the London Festival of Media Global Awards in the same year.

Chimhandamba holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science; a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Marketing from the University of South Africa; a certificate in digital marketing from the University of Cape Town; and a certificate in sales and marketing from the Institute of Marketing Management.

She has also attended executive leadership programmes at London Business School and Wits Business School.

Outside work, Chimhandamba is an ardent supporter of art and sports development in local communities.

Rosalind Gichuru Emerges as MarketingWorld’s CMO of the Week

KCB Group Plc’s Group Director Marketing & Communication, Rosalind Gichuru, a versatile marketing expert has been crowned as MarketingWorld’s CMO of the week, from June 17th to June 23rd 2024.

Appointed on the 9th of August 2021 as the Group Director, Marketing, Corporate Affairs and Citizenship at KCB Group PLC, Rosalind has been responsible for driving the design, alignment, management and delivery of the KCB Group marketing strategy, Corporate Affairs and Communication, Sustainability Agenda, Strategic Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Citizenship agendas and Shared Value Creation Programmes, in a manner that drives growth, sustenance and fulfillment of KCB Group’s social impact goals, brand promise, profitability, brand strength, market share and stakeholder relations.

Rosalind joined KCB from NCBA Group PLC where she has been serving in a similar capacity since 2019. During that era, she led the brand creation of NCBA group from the successful merger of NIC Group and Commercial Bank of Africa (CBA). This has been one of the biggest mergers in Banking in Sub Sahara Africa where a combined 117 years of banking experience came together to form one of the region’s largest banks providing over 100% volume growth. She also supported revenue and balance sheet growth through brand, product and service campaigns.

Possessing an extensive experience that spans across Africa and the US including various leadership positions with increasing responsibilities in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods Industry, Consumer Beverage Industry and Banking and Financial Services Industry, Rosalind has worked for P&G, Coca-Cola Sabco (now Coca-Cola Beverages Africa), The Coca-Cola Company, NIC Group PLC, NCBA Group PLC and KCB Group PLC.

Throughout her career journey, the remit and mandate of her leadership custodianship ensured the establishment of brand leadership in terms of relationship management, innovation and being relevant among the target market through a combination of inspirational (and emotional) brand messaging and communication strategies that reinforce the brand values both internally and externally.

Rosalind has a strong ability to forge relationships with business leaders, being commercially minded and focused on business growth and guide a diverse team in the execution, monitoring, and evaluation of opportunities and results.

Her passion for building and stewarding strong global and local brands began 22 years ago in the United States as a Brand Manager for the Duracell brand and thereafter the Oral-B/Braun brands. Rosalind is naturally inclined to ideation, conceptualization, and execution.

She was born curious, creative and brand building lent itself greatly to her passion for deep thinking, creative thinking, a love for numbers, and the nuggets of insights that can birth great possibilities.

In terms of her academic background, she holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Northeastern University, Boston, USA and a Bachelor of Commerce (General Management) from McMaster University Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Additionally, she is a Certified Executive Coach by the Academy of Executive Coaching, United Kingdom.
