Hypo Urges safety following dangerous social media trend

Hypo Bleach, Nigeria’s leading household bleach brand manufactured by Multipro Enterprise Limited, has issued a strongly worded public notice cautioning citizens against consuming its product following a viral and hazardous social media trend portraying the cleaning agent as a drinkable beverage.

In the official statement signed by Marketing Manager Adebayo Adeyemo, the company emphasized that Hypo is formulated exclusively to remove stains, whiten white fabrics, deodorize surfaces, and kill 99.9% of germs. “It is not a drink. It is not something to consume for the sake of trends,” the notice declared.

The alert comes in response to circulating videos, AI-generated images, and content that misleadingly frame Hypo as a beverage, often fabricated for shock value, jokes, or online views. The brand condemned such portrayals as false and life-threatening, noting that encouraging consumption—even jokingly—puts lives at risk.

Hypo directly addressed influencers, bloggers, and content creators: “Your reach is real. So is your responsibility. A trend that ends in ill-health is not a trend worth starting.” The company urged young Nigerians not to succumb to peer pressure or dares involving the product, stressing that such actions constitute harm, not fun.

The notice also highlighted broader mental health concerns, advising individuals facing emotional struggles or undue pressure to seek help from trusted guardians, counselors, or healthcare professionals. “Asking for help is not weakness. It is strength,” it stated. It further encouraged evaluating online interactions and promoting professional support for signs of depression or harmful thinking.

The public service announcement concluded with a call to prioritize mental health and keep social media safe and enjoyable, under the hashtag #HypoForASaferTomorrow.
This intervention follows reports of a disturbing online controversy involving content creators, where staged or prank-like depictions of consuming household cleaners have gained traction, prompting widespread concern from health advocates and the public.

Hypo reiterated its commitment to public safety, reminding users that household chemicals are for external cleaning only and should never be ingested. For more information, visit the brand’s official channels.
