Helen Nangonzi named MarketingWorld’s CMO of the Week

Helen Basuuta Nangonzi, the Marketing and Customer Experience Director at Absa Bank Uganda, has been recognized as MarketingWorld Magazine’s CMO of the Week—a prestigious accolade celebrating outstanding marketing leadership and transformative impact in the industry.

At Absa Uganda, Nangonzi leads the bank’s marketing strategy and customer experience agenda, driving initiatives that foster deep customer engagement, brand loyalty, and sustained business growth. Her expertise in developing high-impact campaigns and enhancing service delivery has been instrumental in positioning Absa as a leading financial services provider in the region.

Before joining Absa, Nangonzi had a distinguished 14-year career with Standard Chartered Bank, where she held several senior leadership roles across Uganda and East Africa. She served as Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand & Marketing for Kenya and East Africa, overseeing regional brand positioning and strategic communication. Prior to that, she held the same role in Uganda, where she successfully strengthened the bank’s local market presence.

Her earlier roles at Standard Chartered included Head of Brand & Marketing, Human Resource Relationship Manager, General Manager of Marketing, and Head of Service Quality—positions in which she sharpened her skills in strategic marketing and operational excellence. She began her career at the bank as Executive Assistant to the CEO and Product Development Manager, roles that laid a strong foundation for her ascent in corporate leadership.

Nangonzi’s professional journey reflects a deep commitment to innovation, customer-centricity, and marketing excellence. At Absa, she continues to lead with creativity and strategic foresight, ensuring that every customer interaction aligns with the bank’s brand promise of excellence.
