Guinness flaunts Nigeria’s equity growth, leadership in global stout market

Guinness Nigeria has expressed delight over the steady growth and expansion of its equity over many decades through diligent standards application and promotion of international best practices.

Guinness Nigeria, a subsidiary of Diageo Plc of the United Kingdom, was incorporated in 1962 with the building of a brewery in Ikeja, the heart of Lagos. The brewery was the first Guinness operation outside Ireland and Great Britain.

Guinness Nigeria’s Director, Corporate Relations, Mrs. Viola Graham-Douglas who spoke during a facility tour of Guinness Breweries factory in Ogba, Lagos by a team from the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) said Nigeria is the largest stout market in the world after Ireland.

She commended SON for its efforts in ensuring the ease of doing business through the automation of its processes, especially relating to products and management systems certifications.

Guinness Nigeria CEO, Baker Magunda reiterated the company’s commitment to continual improvement in its products and service offerings, stressing that Guinness Nigeria PLC cherished its partnership with SON and other regulatory agencies.

According to reports, in the late 2000s, Nigeria surpassed Ireland to become the second largest market for Guinness consumption.

Data by market research provider Euromonitor International showed that stout consumption is growing to reach 2.2 billion liters in 2020.

According to Euromonitor, China, where use of the product has increased from 9.7 million liters in 2010 to 130 million in 2015, is forecasted to reach 566 million liters in 2020; the US represents the largest market for stout consumption, almost doubling from 173 million liters in 2010 to 315.4 million liters in 2020.
