Absa Bank Ghana donates GHS 1m  to support Black Stars’ 2026 World Cup Campaign

Absa Bank Ghana has thrown its weight behind the national football team, donating GHS 1 million to the Black Stars Fundraising Committee as part of efforts to prepare the team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The official cheque was formally presented by the bank’s Managing Director, Edward Nartey Botchway, to the Deputy Minister of Finance and Chairman of the Fundraising Committee, Hon. Thomas Nyarko Ampem.

Speaking during the presentation, Dr. Edward Nartey Botchway highlighted the bank’s belief in the unifying power of the Black Stars.

“At Absa, we recognise the importance of supporting initiatives that unite Ghanaians and elevate the nation’s image globally,” he said. “The Black Stars continue to embody that spirit of pride, ambition, and possibility.”

The donation forms part of a larger government-led corporate funding drive aimed at raising $30 million to support the Black Stars’ preparations and participation in the tournament, which will be hosted across North America.

Botchway noted that the contribution underscores Absa Bank’s commitment to national development, unity, and the promotion of Ghanaian excellence on the international stage.

“Supporting the Black Stars is about believing in the power of Ghanaian excellence, unity, and the spirit that keeps us moving forward together,” he added. “We are proud to support the Black Stars with GHS 1 million as they embark on this journey of national pride at the World Cup.”

The donation is expected to boost the Black Stars’ campaign as Ghana seeks to make a strong return to the global football showpiece.

At the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which kicks off on June 11, the Black Stars have been drawn in a challenging group alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
