Tanzania seals marketing education deal with UK
Tanzania has entered a historic agreement with the United Kingdom’s Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) to deliver internationally recognised marketing courses within the country, marking a major milestone in the nation’s professional development landscape.
The partnership, led by the Marketing Professionals Association of Tanzania (TMSA), aims to elevate the standard of marketing expertise in Tanzania by making globally accredited training locally accessible.
TMSA Director, Prof Emmanuel Chao, said the collaboration eliminates the need for Tanzanian professionals to travel abroad—often to Nairobi or London—for specialised marketing education.
“Through this collaboration, the courses offered by TMSA will carry international recognition, as they will be accredited by CIM, which boasts over 100 years of experience in marketing education,” Prof Chao explained.
As part of the agreement, experts from both TMSA and CIM will co-develop curricula to ensure that the training aligns with international benchmarks and addresses the rapidly evolving demands of the digital age.

“The world has changed drastically. The digital revolution has brought new challenges to the marketing sector. To stay competitive, we need modern training that equips professionals with the skills to navigate the new digital environments,” Prof Chao added.
The initiative has been praised by industry leaders across East Africa. Ms Moreen Njeri, a marketing and sales specialist in the region, described the partnership as “historic,” saying it brings vital education closer to Tanzanian professionals.
“Previously, to obtain a CIM certificate, one had to travel to the UK or Kenya. Now, Tanzanians will receive this training locally. This will reduce costs and make the programme more accessible,” she noted.
Echoing this sentiment, Mr Suleiman Chillo, Marketing Manager at the Tanzania Tea Board, said the partnership would empower local marketers to better promote Tanzanian products on the global stage.
“We will now have the necessary skills to take our products abroad, which will help increase sales and national revenue,” said Mr Chillo.
