Geofrey Magugi is the Head of Marketing & Digital Banking at DCB Commercial Bank in Tanzania, where he leads the institution’s transformation into a customer-centric, digital-first bank that champions financial inclusion.
In his current role, Magugi oversees the full spectrum of marketing, public relations, customer experience, and digital banking strategy. He drives 360-degree brand campaigns across above-the-line, below-the-line, and digital channels while shaping the bank’s reputation through proactive media engagement and creative storytelling. A passionate advocate for seamless customer journeys, he embeds a customer-first culture across every branch and touchpoint, continuously refining service quality, feedback mechanisms, and retention programmes.
On the digital front, Magugi spearheads aggressive adoption of mobile, internet, and agency banking platforms, with a particular focus on bringing youth, women, and SMEs into the formal financial system. He aligns marketing and digital initiatives with the bank’s broader strategic objectives, regularly advising the Executive Committee and Board on brand health, customer growth, and emerging digital opportunities. Through targeted partnerships and innovative campaigns, he is strengthening DCB’s identity as “the people’s bank” in an increasingly digital Tanzania.

Magugi brings extensive experience from nearly a decade at Equity Bank Tanzania, where he progressed from Senior Officer for Product Marketing and Brand Management to Marketing Specialist and ultimately served as Acting Head of Marketing and Communication.
Recognised as Equity’s Best Employee for Creativity & Innovation in 2024, he conceptualised and executed landmark campaigns such as Ishi Kisasa, Tumerahisisha, Mwanazuoni, and Mara Tatu Zaidi, delivering triple-digit income growth on digital products, rapid digitisation of the customer base, and explosive social-media reach (including over 35,000 TikTok followers and millions of engagements in a single quarter). His hands-on field activations, event sponsorships, and product launches consistently expanded market presence and deepened customer relationships.
Earlier roles at NMB Bank as Direct Sales Specialist, where he pioneered doorstep banking for unbanked rural communities, and positions with Serengeti Breweries and SBC Tanzania (Pepsi) as Sales and Marketing Officer honed his grassroots understanding of Tanzanian consumers and his ability to translate insight into measurable commercial success.
