KWAL sponsors Standard Chartered Nairobi marathon with Ksh 10m

Kenya Wine Agencies Limited (KWAL), the marketer of Heineken 0.0, has significantly increased its sponsorship of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon (SCNM), pledging Ksh 10 million for the 2025 edition, set for October 26.

The announcement was made during a sponsors’ breakfast event in Nairobi, marking a renewed partnership aimed at promoting wellness and community development.

KWAL will sponsor the 21-kilometre half-marathon, aligning the event with its non-alcoholic beverage portfolio, including Heineken 0.0 and Savanna 0.0 cider. Dr. Senorine Wasike, KWAL’s Head of Marketing, emphasized that the enhanced sponsorship reflects the company’s commitment to encouraging healthier lifestyles through physical activity and sports.

“We are thrilled to deepen our partnership with SCNM, which inspires Kenyans to embrace wellness,” Dr. Wasike said. “This collaboration supports our mission to promote health-conscious choices while contributing to impactful community initiatives like the Future Makers Program, which fosters economic inclusion for disadvantaged youth.”

The Future Makers Program, tied to the marathon, was highlighted as a key reason for KWAL’s involvement. The initiative supports community development by creating opportunities for young people, aligning with the values of Heineken 0.0, a brand focused on health and wellness.

Prudence Mutembei, Senior Brand Manager for beers at KWAL, elaborated on Heineken 0.0’s appeal to health-conscious consumers. “Heineken 0.0 is crafted for those who want a premium, zero-alcohol beer with fewer calories, supporting an active lifestyle without compromising on taste,” she said. “It’s the perfect choice for individuals balancing fitness with social enjoyment.”

Mutembei also noted a growing trend in Kenya’s beverage market, particularly among young adults and professionals. “The non-alcoholic category is booming, driven by a shift toward healthier living, especially among Gen Z consumers,” she explained. “More young people are choosing low- or zero-alcohol options while socializing, fueling significant growth in this segment.”

The Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon, a premier sporting event in Kenya, continues to attract participants and sponsors dedicated to health, wellness, and community impact.
