A dairy product from the shelves of Promasidor, Cowbell in partnership with World vision, has commemorated this year’s world water day celebration by providing a water supply facility to the people of Dzakptra, a community in the Upper West Akim District of the Eastern region. The facility, which forms part of series of borehole projects under the Cowbell Impacting Lives initiatives, are being executed in six different districts across the country.
Speaking at a commissioning ceremony in Dzakptra, Marketing Director for Promasidor, Mr. Abiodun Ayodeji, who was delighted with the project, reemphasized commitment by the brand to support the fight against the menace of the unavailability of safe drinking water especially in under-served communities. He also recounted a United Nation report of a staggering population of 2.2 billion people across the world who do not have access to potable drinking water, including Ghanaians. “A percentage of Ghanaians are faced with the challenge of drinking water from unimproved water sources as well as surface water, this dire situation poses a threat on the health, education, socio-economic and general wellbeing of community members, especially women and children. It is for this reason that Cowbell in partnership with World Vision has embarked on this and several other borehole projects to help address the issue of access to safe drinking water in some under-served communities”, Mr. Ayodeji said.
Commenting on the partnership with Promasidor, Program Director for WASH (Water Sanitation and Health) at World Vision, Mr. Robel Wamisho expressed his excitement about the partnership and described Promasidor as an exemplary leader in the discharge of impactful corporate social responsibility. Mr. Wamisho further stated that making water available and changing the way it is used and managed is crucial to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6. He also took the opportunity to encourage community members to develop a culture of maintenance for the borehole. Traditional leader of the area, Nana Boafoa Apomofo Yentumi 1ST, expressed her appreciation and joy about the project and called for more of such support in other communities in her area. She also reaffirmed readiness of the Dzakptra community to ensure that the facility is well maintained.
The borehole project is a community support initiative under the Promasidor Community Impact Drive (PCID), which is designed to support sustainable projects that drive social change, improve the quality of lives and address pressing societal needs of vulnerable groups. The Borehole project seeks to implement safe water supply system to vulnerable communities that do not have access to safe drinking water through the construction and installation of boreholes.
