Coca-Cola debuts affordable ‘Mashesha’ pack in South Africa

Coca-Cola South Africa has introduced a new 250ml PET bottle, dubbed “Coca-Cola Mashesha,” aimed at providing greater affordability and convenience to consumers nationwide.

Priced at a recommended retail price of just R6, the smaller pack is now available for iconic brands including Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite, and Stoney, making favourite refreshments more accessible amid economic pressures.

The launch, which rolled out on 19 November, targets fast-paced South African lifestyles, particularly during the busy year-end season of travel, gatherings, and daily hustle. The compact, on-the-go format is ideal for quick enjoyment at spaza shops, wholesale outlets, or while on the move, without compromising the classic taste consumers love. Currently distributed across most of the country excluding the Western Cape, expansion plans are under review.

Franscoe Bouwer, Senior Director of Frontline Marketing at Coca-Cola South Africa, highlighted the cultural relevance of the product: “We are incredibly excited about Coca-Cola Mashesha, a name born in the streets and rooted in Mzansi culture. Mashesha means ‘fast’ or ‘quick’ in IsiZulu, and it perfectly captures the spirit of this pack. It’s made for quick enjoyment and the vibrant pace of South African life.”

The bottles retain the original recipes with full nutritional information displayed, though no zero-sugar variants are available in this size yet. Environmentally conscious, the 100% recyclable PET bottles feature advanced KHS Plasmax technology for an ultra-thin protective layer, keeping drinks fizzy for up to eight months.

Bouwer added that the innovation aligns with the company’s commitment to offering more choice, convenience, and relevant options tailored to everyday routines. Produced and distributed by Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa, Mashesha represents a strategic move to enhance accessibility in the local market.
