Denise Moreno has been appointed Chief Marketing Officer of Meta,in a significant leadership move at one of the world’s largest technology companies,
A 17-year veteran of the company, Moreno has risen through the ranks since joining in 2009 as Meta’s first email marketer. Her career trajectory mirrors the platform’s extraordinary growth, from helping scale the company when it had just 100 million users to shaping marketing strategies for products that now connect over 3.8 billion people monthly.
In her personal announcement on LinkedIn, Moreno expressed deep gratitude and excitement for the new role, calling it “the honor of my career.” She paid special tribute to her predecessor and longtime mentor, Alex Schultz, who is transitioning to Meta’s first Chief Data Officer.
“Alex, you’ve always led with data and heart,” she wrote. “You taught me that great marketing isn’t about the loudest idea, but rather the clearest thinking. I have big shoes to fill, and I’m cheering for you louder than anyone.”
Moreno’s leadership philosophy centres on the powerful intersection of art and science. She believes the marketing teams that will thrive in the AI era will be those that combine the speed and scale of technology with distinctly human judgment, taste, and creativity.
As Global Vice President of Consumer Marketing and Product Growth, she has played a pivotal role in launching, promoting, and scaling some of the world’s most recognisable platforms: Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Threads, and Meta’s Reality Labs products, including Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta, and Meta Quest. Known for her strong yet empathetic leadership style, Moreno has built high-performing teams that blend rigorous data-driven insights with genuine customer understanding.
Before Meta, Moreno gained valuable hands-on experience in the startup world, managing everything from lead generation to PR and internet marketing. A proud Bay Area native, she holds multiple patents in marketing technology and remains actively involved in mentoring and giving back through several San Jose-based nonprofits.
With her deep institutional knowledge, proven growth expertise, and forward-looking vision, Denise Moreno is uniquely positioned to lead Meta’s marketing organisation through what she describes as “its biggest shift in a generation.”
