Atterwall expresses confidence in Per Narvinger for Ericsson growth

Expects AI Connectivity Leadership Amid Industry Shift

Cecilia Atterwall, Vice President and Head of Marketing, Ericsson, has welcomed the announcement of Per Narvinger as the company’s next President and Chief Executive Officer, describing the move as well-timed for the telecom giant’s continued leadership in a rapidly evolving industry.

In a LinkedIn post reacting to the news, Atterwall praised outgoing CEO Börje Ekholm’s nine-year tenure for transforming Ericsson into a stronger, more focused global leader in trusted communications. She expressed strong confidence in Narvinger’s ability to build on that foundation.

“As we look ahead, I’m excited to see Per Narvinger step into this role. With nearly three decades at Ericsson and experience spanning networks, cloud software and services, he brings deep industry expertise and a strong connection to our customers and technology leadership,” Atterwall said.

Narvinger, who joined Ericsson in 1997, will officially assume the role on October 1, 2026. Ekholm will step down on September 30, 2026, after nearly a decade at the helm, and will continue as an executive advisor until June 15, 2027, to ensure a smooth transition.

Atterwall highlighted the strategic importance of the timing, noting the accelerating industrialization of artificial intelligence and the rising demand for high-performing, programmable, and secure connectivity.

“This transition comes at a pivotal time. As AI continues to industrialize, the need for high-performing, programmable, and secure connectivity has never been greater, and it’s an area where Ericsson is uniquely positioned to lead,” she added.

The marketing leader also extended gratitude to Ekholm for his vision and leadership while looking forward to collaborating with Narvinger.

“I want to thank Börje for his leadership and vision, and look forward to working with Per as we continue shaping the future of networks together.”

With his extensive background across research, standardization, product development, management, sales, and international assignments in Australia and Spain, Narvinger is expected to bring continuity and fresh momentum as Ericsson strengthens its position in the global telecommunications landscape.
