Equity Bank Uganda targets manufacturers via new customer engagement drive

Equity Bank Uganda Limited is intensifying its direct engagement with key customers across the country’s eastern region, as Managing Director Gift Shoko and the Senior Management Team continue a multi-day customer visit programme focused on manufacturing, mining and industrial growth.

The engagements form part of the bank’s African Recovery and Resilience Plan (ARRP), which prioritises support for manufacturing, trade, mining and extractives, local production and Africa’s broader industrialisation agenda.

The tour began in Jinja, where the team visited Modern Group, a diversified conglomerate with more than five companies specialising in large-scale manufacturing across steel, tiles and distilling. The visit allowed the bank to deepen its understanding of the group’s operations and identify opportunities to provide stronger financial and advisory support.

On the second day, the senior team travelled to Busia for meetings with two significant customers. At Wagagai Mining, discussions centred on how Equity Bank can better understand the mining and extractives sector and support its development and transformation—another key pillar of the ARRP.

The day concluded at Kasaijja & Sons Milling Ltd., where the team engaged with Mr. Robert Kasaijja. Starting with modest personal savings, Kasaijja has grown and diversified his business from milling into hospitality, becoming one of the bank’s largest customers in the district.

Equity Bank highlighted the relationship as a practical example of how integrated financial services and long-term partnership can enable entrepreneurs to expand, create wealth and generate wider economic opportunities.

Day three took the team to Mbale. At the Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park, an important hub for manufacturing and trade in Eastern Uganda, the bank engaged businesses operating within the park. Discussions focused on the opportunities and challenges facing industrial tenants and how Equity can support expansion, local production and value addition.

Later the same day, the Managing Director and senior managers visited UKI (U) Ltd, manufacturer of the popular Sleeping Baby brand and other personal care products. The engagement sought a deeper understanding of the company’s needs and growth ambitions, reinforcing the bank’s commitment to helping local manufacturers scale and contribute to industrial resilience.

In a separate high-level visit, Equity Bank Board Members and Executive Management, led by Board Chair Henry Rugamba, called on Master Grains Milling—popularly known as Blue Ribbon—a leading flour manufacturer. The visit underscored the bank’s continued focus on supporting local manufacturers under the ARRP framework.

Across all the engagements, Equity Bank Uganda emphasised that it is not merely providing finance but building purposeful partnerships that unlock opportunities, strengthen local enterprises and contribute to Uganda’s economic transformation.
