MarketingWorld’s CMO of the Week: Ifeoma Agu of Diageo Africa, South-Africa

Strategic marketing leadership across diverse markets requires vision, agility, and cultural intelligence—qualities that define the career of Ifeoma Agu. As Marketing and Innovation Director for Diageo Africa, she oversees one of the continent’s most expansive marketing portfolios, guiding brand strategy and innovation across more than 30 countries. Her work reflects a blend of creativity, commercial discipline, and a deep understanding of Africa’s dynamic consumer landscape.

Driving Pan-African Marketing Transformation

In her leadership role at Diageo Africa, Agu manages marketing and innovation initiatives spanning West, Central, and Southern Africa. She leads diverse teams focused on transforming the company’s marketing capabilities to remain competitive in fast-changing markets. Central to her mandate is the development of portfolio strategies that deliver growth, market share, and long-term value. By combining consumer insight with digital innovation, she has helped strengthen the organisation’s ability to connect with audiences across culturally distinct markets.

Innovation, Inculsion and Strategic Growth

Agu’s leadership extends beyond brand performance. She has played a key role in shaping the company’s inclusion and diversity agenda through pan-African projects aligned with environmental, social, and governance priorities. By integrating inclusive marketing strategies and employer-brand initiatives, she supports a corporate culture that reflects the diversity of the markets the company serves. Her work also involves developing agile marketing frameworks that empower teams to adapt quickly to emerging trends and consumer behaviour.

Building Iconic Brands in Nigeria

Before her current regional leadership role, Agu served as Marketing Manager for International Premium Spirits and Reserve Brands in Nigeria. In that capacity, she led marketing efforts for globally recognised brands including Johnnie Walker, Ciroc, Baileys, Smirnoff and Tanqueray. Her campaigns blended cultural storytelling with immersive consumer engagement, strengthening brand relevance and driving business growth across Nigeria’s competitive spirits market.
