Dentsu Appoints Takeshi Sano as New Global CEO

Dentsu Group Inc. has appointed Takeshi Sano as its new President and Global CEO, effective March 27, 2026, following approval by the company’s board and forthcoming shareholder confirmation. Sano, a dentsu veteran since 1992 with over three decades of experience, currently serves as CEO of dentsu Japan and Deputy Global Chief Operating Officer.

The announcement highlights Dentsu’s emphasis on client trust and capability-building, even as the company navigates challenges (including recent reported losses and workforce adjustments). Under Sano’s incoming leadership, the group aims to strengthen its role as a predictive partner for clients in the sustainable economy—blending Japanese precision with diverse global perspectives.

Sano succeeds Hiroshi Igarashi and brings proven leadership in driving sustained growth. Under his tenure, dentsu Japan achieved 11 consecutive quarters of revenue increase and strong profitability, while advancing Business Transformation (BX) services globally. His appointment emphasizes execution excellence, client-centric growth, integrated solutions, technology, creativity, and people-focused strategies to accelerate dentsu’s global transformation.

As the group strengthens under new leadership, dentsu Africa continues to demonstrate bold self-reliance and entrepreneurial momentum. Operating across South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Mozambique, Uganda, Zambia, Tanzania, Ghana, and Francophone markets, the region is powered by local talent and ownership delivering culturally attuned innovations that address Africa’s unique realities rather than relying solely on global imports.

Dentsu Africa champions locally-built solutions like Merkury (re-engineered for African audiences, profiling over 200 million consumers for precise brand connections) and COPO (Consumer in Your Pocket, delivering real-time actionable insights)—African-designed tools tackling African challenges with cultural intelligence, speed, authenticity, and relevance.

dentsu Africa’s unwavering purpose is to transform the continent through entrepreneur-led solutions crafted by Africans for African consumers. With resilience, bold ownership, accountability, and unmatched cultural intelligence, the region scales intentionally—leading proactively while global alignment strengthens under Sano’s stewardship.
