Kenya: Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) sponsors Kenya Paralympic Team ahead of the Paris games

Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL), through its flagship brand Tusker, has announced a Ksh. 5 million sponsorship for the Kenya National Paralympic Committee (KNPC) as the team prepares for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The sponsorship will support the team’s preparation and participation in the games, which are scheduled to take place from August 28th to September 8th in Paris.

The sponsorship will also include the provision of an official travel kit for the Paralympic team, crafted locally to symbolize national pride and highlight the talent and craftsmanship of Kenyans. The kit serves as a token of the nation’s support for its athletes as they compete on the global stage.

The Kenyan Paralympics team consists of 14 para-athletes who will compete across five disciplines. Among the athletes are seasoned competitors such as Nancy Chelangat, who will be guided by Geoffrey Rotich, Mary Waithera with guide James Boit, and Prisca Jepkemoi with Kenneth Lagat, all competing in the 1,500m T11 category. The team also features athletes in other events, including cycling, taekwondo, rowing, and powerlifting.

Leading the athletics squad are Samuel Mushai, partnered with guide Jean Kipchumba, John Lokedi in the 5,000m T13, Wesley Sang in the 1,500m T46, Samson Ojuka in the Long Jump T37, and Sheila Wanyonyi in the Javelin F12. The team also includes cyclists Dedan Ireri Maina and Kennedy Ogada, taekwondo athletes Stacy Neema and Julieta Moipo, rower Asiya Sururu, and powerlifter Hellen Wawira, who recently competed in the World Powerlifting Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Speaking during the sponsorship announcement, Mark Ocitti, KBL Managing Director said, “Tusker has always been a champion of the Kenyan spirit, and our Paralympic athletes exemplify the very best of our nation. We are honored to partner with these extraordinary individuals who embody the true spirit of Kenya. Their dedication and perseverance inspire us all. We believe in their potential to achieve greatness on the world stage, and we are committed to providing them with the necessary support as they strive for glory at the Games.”

On his part, Bhaveet Chudasama, Vice President of the Kenya National Paralympic Committee expressed his gratitude for the support, acknowledging that it would help them achieve great things at the Paris Games.
