Showmax launches ‘Shikini Season’ for affordable streaming

Showmax, Africa’s leading streaming service, has launched the Showmax Shikini Season, offering significant discounts on its General Entertainment (GE) Mobile and All Devices plans for a limited time in a move to make premium entertainment more accessible.

From February 28 to March 31, 2025, new and returning subscribers can access Showmax GE Mobile for just ₦1,000 instead of ₦1,600, while the Showmax All Devices plan will be available for ₦2,000 instead of ₦3,500. The promotion aims to provide Nigerians with an affordable way to enjoy their favorite shows and movies on mobile or multiple devices.

Speaking on the initiative, Tope Oshunkeye, Executive Head of Marketing, West Africa, MultiChoice Nigeria, emphasized the importance of affordability in today’s market.

“We know that affordability is a key concern for many Nigerians, and we want to ensure that access to first-class streaming entertainment remains within reach.

Showmax Shikini Season is our way of ensuring more Nigerians can enjoy content that has never been seen before without breaking the bank. Whether you’re a new or returning subscriber, this is the perfect opportunity to dive into our diverse content library at an unbeatable price,” he said.

The launch of Shikini Season follows Showmax’s first-anniversary relaunch in partnership with Comcast’s NBCUniversal and Sky, which introduced a platform upgrade, a stronger content slate, and a rebrand. Since the relaunch, Showmax has experienced a 50% year-on-year increase in paying subscribers as of September 2024, reflecting MultiChoice’s ongoing investment in Africa’s streaming landscape.

March 2025 promises an exciting lineup of entertainment for Showmax subscribers, with a diverse mix of local and international content. Viewers can indulge in Showmax Nigerian Originals, including the highly anticipated epic Yoruba series Between Worlds, set to premiere on March 6, alongside Kabiyesi, new episodes of Under the Influence, and the return of fan-favorite dramas Cheta M S2 and Wura S3.

Reality TV enthusiasts can look forward to the record-breaking third season of The Real Housewives of Lagos, as well as fresh offerings from Africa Magic. For fans of Hollywood blockbusters, Showmax will stream some of the biggest films of 2024, including Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, Venom: The Last Dance, and Despicable Me 4.

Critically acclaimed productions will also take center stage, with Showmax offering It Ends With Us—one of Google’s top 10 most-searched movies of 2024—alongside gripping series such as Gangs of London, The Righteous Gemstones, and the Emmy-winning The White Lotus Season 3.

Additionally, viewers can enjoy other top-rated shows like Suits LA S1, Power Book II: Ghost, Love Island, and Yellowjackets, ensuring a well-rounded selection of entertainment for every taste.
