Proximo Spirits Appoints Samuel Douglas to Drive Nigeria, Ghana Growth

Proximo Spirits has appointed Samuel Douglas as Country Manager for Nigeria and Ghana, reinforcing its leadership team as it accelerates expansion across two of West Africa’s most dynamic beverage markets.

The appointment signals a new phase of growth for the global spirits company, known for premium brands including Jose Cuervo, 1800 Tequila, Bushmills Irish Whiskey, and The Kraken. With operations spanning more than 85 countries, Proximo Spirits is now looking to deepen its premium spirits penetration strategy across Nigeria and Ghana.

Douglas announced the appointment in a LinkedIn post in May 2026, describing the move as a significant milestone in a career that has spanned banking, nightlife management, brand development, distribution, and commercial leadership within the wines and spirits industry.

In his new role, he will focus on accelerating market expansion, strengthening strategic partnerships, and deepening consumer engagement across both countries. His appointment reflects Proximo Spirits’ growing confidence in West Africa’s premium beverage segment, where evolving consumer preferences, nightlife culture, experiential marketing, and urban retail growth continue to reshape consumption patterns.

Bringing more than two decades of industry experience, Douglas has built a reputation for scaling premium beverage portfolios, opening new distribution channels, and driving brand visibility across multiple African markets.

Before joining Proximo Spirits, he led operations for Sovereign Brands across Nigeria, Gabon, and Togo from December 2016, overseeing the growth of globally recognised brands such as Luc Belaire and Bumbu Rum. He also simultaneously served as Commercial Director for Nigeria and Ghana at Josien Holdings Limited, a distribution partner associated with Moët Hennessy.

The dual leadership roles strengthened his expertise in distribution management, retail activation, nightlife engagement, and route-to-market execution, positioning him among West Africa’s most experienced premium spirits executives.

Industry observers believe the appointment aligns with a broader trend among international beverage companies increasing investments in emerging African markets, where premiumisation, youth-driven consumer culture, and aspirational spending continue to gain momentum.

Douglas’ experience managing premium portfolios across multiple territories is expected to support Proximo Spirits’ efforts to consolidate its presence and unlock new opportunities within Nigeria and Ghana’s rapidly expanding hospitality and lifestyle sectors.

Speaking on his appointment, Douglas said: “What continues to drive me is the passion for creating growth, opening new frontiers, and establishing premium brands in markets with enormous potential.”

He added that he looks forward to collaborating closely with customers, trade partners, and internal teams to build stronger market connections and deliver memorable consumer experiences across both markets.

As competition intensifies within Africa’s premium spirits category, Proximo Spirits’ latest leadership move is expected to strengthen its position and accelerate its long-term growth ambitions across the region.
