Nigeria: Uber Launches Store Pickups to Ease Deliveries in Festive period

Uber has unveiled its latest innovation, Store Pickups, designed to simplify how consumers have their parcels or purchased items picked up or delivered. With the newly rebranded Courier (previously known as Uber Package), customers can now book a delivery person to collect prepaid items from stores, whether bought in-store or online, ensuring same-day delivery is more seamless and efficient.

According to Country Manager for Nigeria, Tope Akinwumi, Uber’s new service, “aims to stay close to the evolving needs of our consumer base. The introduction of Store Pickups with Courier demonstrates this understanding. With Courier, one can send or receive items and also have purchased items picked up in-store, providing convenience for consumers and allowing them to spend more time with loved ones this festive season.”

Store Pickups offers a user-friendly experience: customers can upload a photo of their receipt and provide specific instructions for the driver on where and how to collect the items. The drivers are also equipped to interact with store staff on the customer’s behalf. To utilize this service, consumers need to prepare their items for pickup, select “Courier” on the Uber app, choose the desired delivery type (send or receive), enter the pickup and delivery addresses, and review the terms and conditions. Once the request is confirmed, users can track their delivery in real-time via the app.

Safety remains at the core of Uber’s operations. Store Pickups feature Live Tracking, allowing users to follow the progress of their delivery, and PIN Verification, providing a unique PIN that ensures the correct item has been collected or delivered.

Currently available in Lagos, Uber plans to expand Store Pickups to other key cities in the near future, further enhancing the convenience and efficiency of parcel delivery for consumers.
