MarketingWorld’s CMO of the Week: Irene Mutiganzi of Access Bank Tanzania

With a sharp focus on enhancing visibility, deepening customer engagement, and accelerating business growth, Rene Mutiganzi, Head of Marketing & Communications at Access Bank Tanzania, is orchestrating seamless initiatives across digital and traditional platforms. She leads the bank’s brand strategy, integrated marketing campaigns, and corporate communications.

Her oversight extends to media relations, stakeholder management, and championing financial inclusion programs, ensuring consistent, resonant messaging that strengthens internal cohesion and external impact in Tanzania’s competitive financial landscape.

Mutiganzi’s career is marked by progressive leadership in Tanzania’s fast-moving consumer goods sector. At Diageo, as Head of Spirits, she crafted and executed comprehensive marketing strategies for the spirits portfolio, managing the P&L while fostering a robust spirits culture to drive equity, volume, market share, and net sales value growth.

Before that, at AB InBev, she excelled as Brand Manager for iconic brands including Kilimanjaro Premium Lager, Kilimanjaro Light, Flying Fish, Redds Premium, Grand Malt, and Safari Water. In this role, she developed and implemented brand strategies, high-impact campaigns, sponsorships, events, and communications that consistently expanded market share and amplified brand power in Dar es Salaam and beyond.

Her foundational experience at Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL PLC) spanned sustainability and stakeholder engagement. As Sustainability Manager and earlier as Stakeholder Engagement & Sustainability Executive, she spearheaded initiatives that aligned corporate responsibility with business objectives, building enduring partnerships and promoting sustainable practices across the organization.

Mutiganzi’s early career included enriching international exposure as a Student Athlete Mentor at the University of Miami Athletics, alongside internships in brand communications at Vodacom and experiential marketing in Tanzania. These formative roles honed her skills in relationship-building, strategic execution, and innovative outreach.
