Joel Chacha Emerges as MarketingWorld’s PR Personality of the Week

Portland’s Director, Joel Chacha, an accomplished communications leader has been crowned as MarketingWorld’s PR Personality of the week, from June 17th to June 23rd 2024.

With over 15 years of experience in creating, managing, and sustaining communication programs at local, regional, and global levels, Joel is part of Portland Communication’s international team operating in Nairobi, London, Paris, Brussels, Berlin, Washington DC., Doha and Singapore. He leads the African regional hub to provide strategic insights, high-quality delivery and advising multinational investors, corporations, and prominent development and policy-focused groups on the African continent.

In his career journey, Joel boasts of over a decade of experience in the communications industry having worked as a reporter at Standard Group, Account Director at Ogilvy Public Relations and as the General Manager and Chief Strategist of Tell-Em Public Relations until recently before he joined Portland Communications as a Director.

Having consulted across 32 countries across the continent, he understands the African market, its various cultures, languages, and the media landscape. Over the years, he has developed and implemented successful campaigns tailored to each country’s unique needs.

Aside the aforementioned, he also serves as a corporate board member representative for the Marketing Society of Kenya (MSK), where he doubles up as the chair of the marketing and the gala committee. From 2018 to 2022, he served as the chairman of the media relations experts panel at the Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK), and this year he was named PRWeek Global Awards jury where he joined a board of industry global leaders, meeting to judge entries from across the world.

It is interesting to know that Joel’s work reputation has been critically acclaimed – and this has earned him major industry awards, including the Superior Achievement in Brand Building award, Best Media Relations Campaign, and Best Overall PR Campaign of the Year.

Joel’s industry work and experience include global and regional giants such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Alwaleed Philanthropies, the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, the Mastercard Foundation, King Baudouin Foundation, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, The International Finance Corporation (IFC), Visa, Telkom Kenya, Safaricom, Procter and Gamble (P&G), Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA), Kenya Airways, Qatar Airways, British Airways, The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England, and Wales (ICAEW), Prime Bank, Bank of Africa and I&M Bank, to start-ups such Bolt, LORI, Basi GO, Zanifu, Gebeya, and Glovo.

As a self-proclaimed philomath, Joel spends his free time researching new ideas, concepts, and technologies.

His outstanding contributions to the industry as a communications practitioner make him a deserving recipient of the PR Personality of the week recognition by MarketingWorld Magazine.
