DHL Express Opens New Hub in Atlanta

A Global leader in the logistics industry, DHL Express has announced the grand opening of its Americas region hub based at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). With a focus on sustainability, the $84.5 million investment further strengthens the company’s connections and service capabilities between the U.S. and key global markets, increasing capacity, speeding transit times, and adding resilience to its network.

The cutting-edge hub, which covers 100,000 square feet, creates direct connections between 19 cities in the Southeastern United States and important international markets, such as Europe and significant DHL hubs worldwide. The addition of flight connections to Puerto Rico, the UK, Mexico, Hong Kong, and Mexico is planned for the future.

The DHL Atlanta Hub also raises the bar for sustainability, producing up to 50% of its on-site energy needs through 65,000 square feet of rooftop solar panels and avoiding the emission of 380 metric tons of CO2 every year. Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), which ensure that there are no emissions from the use of electricity, are used to source the remaining energy used on-site. Additionally, the hub uses environmentally friendly components like LED lighting, electric forklifts, dock seals, and rapid rise doors to further reduce its environmental impact.

“The new DHL Express Atlanta Hub represents a turning point in our ongoing efforts to advance technology and sustainability. It also demonstrates our faith in the potential of global commerce and acknowledges the importance of Atlanta and the Southeast United States in the global economy, according to Mike Parra, CEO of DHL Express Americas. “This hub not only fosters global trade and cross-border collaboration, but it also expands employment opportunities in Atlanta. We take great pride in helping the neighborhoods where people live and raise their families prosper.

The Atlanta hub is a fully automated operation with state-of-the-art equipment that can sort up to 20,000 pieces per hour.
