Mukuru Launches Revolutionary Mobile Wallet in Zimbabwe

Next-generation financial services platform, Mukuru, has just launched the game-changing Mukuru Wallet in Zimbabwe. This secure digital store of value follows Mukuru’s recent award of a Deposit-Taking Microfinance Institution (DTMFI) licence by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe.

Leveraging Mukuru’s established expertise, which serves over three million Zimbabwean customers, the Mukuru Wallet comes packed with several standout features. It offers two pockets for sending and receiving money both locally and internationally via mobile phones, secure storage of funds, and free cashouts on international transfers.

Marc Carrie-Wilson, CEO of Send Money Home Zimbabwe, comments: “The Mukuru Wallet is a significant development in the country. We’ve built a reputable brand by ensuring consistent cash availability. With our 250 service points across urban and rural areas, we can reach more people than ever, providing essential financial services to underserved communities.”

Mukuru Zimbabwe Financial Services CEO, Doug Tait-Knight, adds: “Mukuru is committed to driving financial inclusion. The Mukuru Wallet taps into our robust network and technology, making this a pivotal moment for us in Zimbabwe. It offers affordable domestic money transfers, enhances safety by reducing the need to carry large sums of money, and provides convenience for paying for utilities and other services from home.”

Mukuru’s future plans include extending their services to organizations, enabling them to leverage Mukuru’s local and global capabilities for payments, payrolls, and traceable aid distributions. Notable partners already include Cottco, the United Nations World Food Programme, and UNICEF.

Kevin Nyakotyo, Mukuru’s Enterprise Sales Manager for Zimbabwe and Zambia, remarks: “Our success with end users sets the stage for entering the business sector. The Mukuru Wallet ensures safer transactions for large sums of money, benefiting both organizations and individuals. This wallet gives peace of mind knowing funds are secure and accessible anytime.”
