Nigeria: Bank of Industry (BOI) appoints Dayo Aderugbo as GM/Divisional Head, Strategic Comms & External Affairs

Bank of Industry (BOI) has appointed Mrs. Dayo Aderugbo as General Manager/Divisional Head of Strategic Communications and External Affairs.

Aderugbo brings with her to BOI over two decades of invaluable experience and an impressive track record of success in the banking and financial services sector.

For those in the marketing and branding circles, Aderugbo needs no introduction. Her name is synonymous with game-changing initiatives and innovative campaigns that have redefined the way banking products and services are marketed. During her illustrious career at Standard Chartered Bank, where she served as the Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand and Marketing for Nigeria and West Africa, she spearheaded numerous projects that have taken the bank to new heights.

One of her crowning achievements was the launch of the Standard Chartered Digital Bank in 2019, which challenged traditional banking norms by offering unparalleled convenience, security, and accessibility to customers. This disruptive move also included a first-of-its-kind value proposition in the country, with zero charges or fees for transactions.

Her passion for sustainable development and her commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have been the driving force behind many of her initiatives. Under her leadership, Standard Chartered Bank became a thought leader in sustainability matters, setting ambitious targets to achieve net zero carbon emissions from financing by 2050. Her efforts in this regard have earned the bank numerous accolades, including the Eco-friendly brand campaign of the year at the ECOSEA 2022 Awards and the 2022 Avant Garde Recognition Award for Sustainability Awards for Exemplary Impact.

Her dedication to empowering women in technology and fostering financial literacy is equally noteworthy. The launch of the “Women in Technology” initiative, aimed at aiding female entrepreneurs in the tech sector to market their products and services, has invested nearly USD 600,000 to date. Additionally, the “Women Winning with Wealth (WWW)” proposition, launched in March 2022, has already onboarded over 2,000 female clients, generating millions of dollars in revenue and creating immense growth opportunities for women.

Under her guidance, Standard Chartered Bank has consistently achieved year-over-year growth in revenue, client base, and profitability. Her efforts have been recognized with numerous awards, including the 2022 Best New Wealth Management Product at the Global Retail Banking Innovation Awards and the 2022 Asian Banker Best Wealth Management Bank in Nigeria award.

Aderugbo is passionate about sustainable multigenerational impact. Prioritizing advocacy for the SDGs, she has championed initiatives such as the WWW and Digital Literacy Education that ensure reach and impact in various communities across the country. Over the last couple of years, Dayo as the Chief Marketer for the Bank has led the corporate affairs, brand and marketing team to deliver various marketing initiatives and campaigns that have supported the Bank to achieve consitent YOY growth in revenue and client base and profitability growth. Dayo continuously amplifies the Standard Chartered Brand making it synonymous with service excellence, humanity and innovation for colleagues, clients and the community.

Her outstanding contributions to the industry have won her many accolades. She believes in the power of collaborations and the impact of public-private partnerships. Under her leadership, she has fostered strategic Private: Public partnerships with Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Finance, LASEPA and LASPARK to mention a few.
She is an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife where she obtained a Law degree with Honours (LLB). She is a Barrister at Law having also received a BL Degree from the Nigeria Law School and holds a Masters Degree in Corporate and Commercial Law (LLM) from the prestigious University College (UCL), University of London, UK. Dayo has also completed a Special Executive MBA from the Metropolitan School of Business and Management, UK and is currently undergoing a PhD in Business Risk Management.

Aderugbo is a Fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Marketing (FNIM), an Honorary Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Nigeria (HCIBN) and a member of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (MNIPR).
