Samsung Galaxy S23 Series Officially Launched in Nairobi

Tech giant Samsung, has announced the launch of its latest Galaxy S smart phones; Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23. The global announcement took place in San Francisco, United States, while the local unveil took place at the Sarit Centre in Nairobi.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra is a spiritual successor to the now-canceled Galaxy Note smartphone series. It has a built-in S Pen holster, just like the Galaxy S22 Ultra, but the 2023 model has flatter surfaces, and the screen’s side edges are not wrapping around the edges as much as they did in previous years.

Some of the standout features of the new phones include; a high-end high-resolution camera with new photo features, a longer lasting battery with increased charging speeds and an exclusive chip among others.

Speaking at the launch, Samsung Africa President Hong said, “Our 2022 MX business performance was strengthened by strong sales of our premium smartphones, including sustained performance from the Galaxy S22 series and best-ever recorded foldable sales”.

“I am confident that with the successful launch of our new flagship model, East Africa will play a leading role in driving the success for Africa this year.”

The new lineup comes in four nature-inspired matte hues: Phantom Black, Cream, Green and Lavender and will be available for pre-order from February 2 to February 28, 2023.

Safaricom customers who pre-order the Galaxy S23 Ultra will receive an automatic upgrade from a 256 GB to 526 GB device storage worth Ksh.20,000 and 10 GB data each month for a year.

According to Samsung, customers that pre-order the Galaxy S23+ and the Galaxy S23 will receive a free silicone case as well as 10GB data each month for one year.

“The Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 will also be eligible for Samsung Care+, which offers among other things 1-year free screen protection . The pre-order will be available at all authorized Samsung Dealer stores,” Mr. Hong said.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra 512 GB will set back consumers Ksh.209,999 while the Galaxy S23 Ultra 256 GB will retail at Ksh.195,999.

The Galaxy S23+ 256 GB will cost Ksh.154,999 while the Galaxy S23 256 GB will go for Ksh.135,999.

The new lineup of Galaxy S phones will be available at all authorised dealer stores, including Safaricom shops, from March 1,2023.

According to Samsung Electronics East Africa Director of Mobile Experience Charles Kimari, the electronic giant is seeking avenues to increase inclusivity and affordability for its consumers so that they can acquire the new Galaxy S phones.

“One of the ways we are doing this is through strategic partnerships with finance partners. We already have a working agreement with KCB and Safaricom as the first two official device financing partners and are working on getting more partners on board to allow more Kenyans to acquire our devices at a pace that works for them,” he said during the launch.

“These strategic partnerships are what we believe will shape the device acquisition landscape in Kenya.”
