LG extends Smart TV lifespan with WebOS Renew

In a move set to redefine smart home entertainment, LG Electronics has introduced webOS Renew, a groundbreaking program that offers five years of software upgrades to existing LG Smart TV owners.

This initiative is aimed at extending the lifespan of LG 4K and 8K smart TVs while providing enhanced security, improved performance, and access to the latest apps and content—all without requiring users to purchase a new television.

The webOS Renew program is designed to enhance the user experience by bringing continuous software updates that deliver a refreshed interface, new features, and better overall performance.

According to Choongbae Seok, General Manager, Media Entertainment Solutions at LG Electronics West Africa, the initiative will transform older LG Smart TVs into modern entertainment hubs, keeping them up to date with the latest technological advancements.

“We strive to provide life-enriching experiences for our customers by delivering a wide range of content and services on our TVs. With more LG Smart TVs adopting the latest webOS upgrade, content providers and service developers will have more opportunities to spread new content, services, and features to a wider audience,” Seok stated.

As part of the webOS Renew program, LG will roll out the latest webOS upgrades across its 2024 OLED TV lineup, as well as QNED, NanoCell, and UHD TVs. The software updates will ensure users enjoy an experience comparable to purchasing a new TV every year, similar to the way smartphones receive annual software updates.

This upgrade introduces a highly customizable interface, with a personalized Home Screen that recommends content based on individual user preferences. The Quick Card UI further simplifies navigation, organizing content into categories like music, games, and sports, creating a seamless experience akin to mobile user interface designs.

Beyond improved accessibility and navigation, webOS Renew integrates advanced security technology to enhance protection against cyber threats. The optimized operating system also guarantees a smooth, uninterrupted viewing experience, ensuring that users enjoy their favorite content with greater stability and safety.

LG Expands TV Lineup for 2024
In addition to unveiling webOS Renew, LG has expanded its TV lineup with new OLED and QNED models designed to suit different viewing preferences and budgets. The latest OLED TV series, C4 and G4, offers screen sizes ranging from 55 inches to 83 inches, with 4K HDR resolution, Brightness Booster technology, and AI Alpha processing for an immersive viewing experience. These models also come with integrated webOS 24 streaming, providing users with access to over 300 free LG Channels.

LG’s commitment to innovation and user experience aligns with its long-term vision of becoming a media and entertainment platform, delivering curated content and valuable services to millions of households. Currently, more than 200 million LG Smart TVs worldwide operate on webOS, with plans for continuous upgrades to enhance functionality, usability, and content selection.

Availability in Nigeria
LG Smart TVs, including those eligible for webOS Renew, are available at LG Showrooms and accredited dealers across Nigeria. Customers can explore various models suited to their preferences, with periodic promotions making high-quality entertainment even more accessible.
