French Embassy, Kucheza Gaming empower Lagos teachers

Kucheza Gaming, in partnership with Ukie Digital Schoolhouse and Nintendo UK, recently held Teachers’ Ingenuity Day, a groundbreaking training program aimed at introducing game-based learning to educators in Lagos State public schools.

The event, which took place in District IV, equipped 36 teachers from 24 schools with innovative teaching methods to deliver computing concepts through interactive and creative approaches. The initiative reflects a commitment to transforming education by integrating digital tools and fostering engagement in the classroom.

With the context of limited access to computing education and devices in schools, Kucheza Gaming’s Ingenuity Day focused on the Playful Computing Curriculum—an award-winning, unplugged programme that teaches computational thinking without requiring immediate access to a computer. This hands-on, interactive curriculum equips teachers with tools to make STEM education more accessible and engaging for students regardless of technological resources.

“Teachers are the catalysts for educational transformation,” said Gbenga Folorunsho, Impact as a Service Lead at Kucheza Gaming. “By embracing game-based learning and digital literacy, we are equipping our teachers with the essential tools to prepare students for a technology-driven future. We are also grateful for the support of the French Embassy in Nigeria, whose sponsorship has been pivotal in making this initiative a reality.”

A highlight of the day was the introduction of the Kucheza Teachers Track—a long-term initiative offering continuous professional development through mentorship, resources, and specialized workshops. This programme aims to sustain teacher growth and foster the integration of digital literacy into everyday classroom practices.

As a next step, selected teachers will be empowered to kickstart the Playful Computing workshops in their respective schools, bringing game-based learning directly to students.

“The French Embassy in Nigeria is proud to support Kucheza’s Playful Computing Program in schools, it is a creative initiative that combines education and play. We find it particularly interesting to encourage young people to learn computing concepts through video games. Kucheza Gaming capitalises on the interests of youth to help them reinterpret their passion and we hope that these practices will become more democratised in the future.”

The success of Ingenuity Day reflects Kucheza Gaming’s continued commitment to showcasing career pathways and fostering future-ready skills through play. By equipping teachers with practical skills and international collaborations, the initiative marks a significant step toward preparing Nigerian youth for a digital future.
