Ademola: Africa must build systems to sustain innovation hub status

Queenesther Ademola, a brand consultant and manager at Thatbrandgirl, emphasized that Africa’s path to becoming a global hub for innovation and enterprise depends on building strong structural foundations.

Africa is brimming with innovative ideas, but without structure and discipline, its businesses risk falling short of their global potential.

“If we truly want to make Africa the hub of innovation and global business we dream of,then structure must become our foundation — not an afterthought.” she said in parts

Ademola emphasized that the continent’s entrepreneurial spirit is not the issue—its lack of sustainable systems is.

“Africa doesn’t lack ideas; it lacks structure,” Ademola said. “We’re great at building ideas, but not institutions. We focus on launching businesses, not sustaining them, and we prioritize visibility over longevity.” She argues that too many African businesses crumble under the weight of internal weaknesses, often blaming external factors like a bad economy or low customer demand. “The rot often starts from within,” she added, urging entrepreneurs to look inward.

Ademola, whose expertise has guided numerous brands toward clarity and growth, stresses that effective business management goes beyond hiring staff. “It’s about creating systems that work even when you’re not there,” she explained. “It’s about documentation, accountability, leadership, and intentional brand management with a long-term vision.” Without these, she warns, businesses remain vulnerable to collapse once the initial hype fades.

The brand consultant sees Africa’s growth potential as immense but untapped. “For us to compete globally, we need companies built to last, not one-year wonders,” she said. Ademola challenges founders, entrepreneurs, and CEOs to ask tough questions: “Do I have structure in my business? Do I truly understand my brand, or am I just running on vibes? If I step away today, will my company stand tomorrow?”
