Coca-Cola extends iconic bottle trademark to 2035

The Coca-Cola Company has successfully renewed the trademark for its famous contour bottle, ensuring exclusive global protection of the design until December 11, 2035.

The iconic bottle silhouette, instantly recognised around the world, has been under continuous trademark protection for nearly five decades. The renewal extends a legal legacy that began with the original registration in 1975, followed by formal approval in 1976.

The contour bottle’s distinctive shape has become one of Coca-Cola’s most valuable intellectual property assets, preventing competitors from copying the design within the soft drink category. Analysts say the renewed protection reinforces the company’s strategy to safeguard core elements of its brand identity in a competitive global market.

Beyond its commercial worth, the bottle has transcended packaging to become a cultural symbol — its unmistakable curves instantly associated with the Coca-Cola brand and celebrated in advertising, art and design.

The trademark renewal also comes at a time when Coca-Cola continues to innovate across its packaging portfolio, including sustainability-focused initiatives such as recyclable materials and reduced plastic usage. While formats may evolve, the contour bottle remains a central symbol of the company’s heritage and authenticity.

With the trademark secured until 2035, Coca-Cola has reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the legacy of one of the most recognisable packaging designs in the world, ensuring that the iconic contour bottle continues to stand as a symbol of quality, consistency and timeless brand power for years to come.
