This week’s edition of the CMO of the Week spotlights one of the commanding voices in the competitive banking sector in Uganda, Noela Byuma, Head of Marketing and Communications at KCB Bank Uganda.

With over 15 years of high-impact experience spanning financial services and telecommunications, Byuma brings a rare combination of strategic depth, creative flair, and consumer intuition to one of East Africa’s most dynamic banking brands.

She leads the charge in crafting integrated strategies that blend brand elevation, digital innovation, stakeholder engagement, and purposeful storytelling to drive sustainable business growth.

At KCB, her mandate is broad yet focused: strengthening brand equity, enhancing customer trust, and positioning the bank as a forward-thinking leader across Uganda’s competitive financial landscape.

Before joining KCB, Byuma spent over 15 years at Airtel Uganda, rising through the ranks to become Head of Brand and Communications. There, she orchestrated memorable, large-scale campaigns that significantly boosted brand affinity, customer acquisition, and market positioning.

From spearheading the iconic Airtel Rising Stars grassroots football initiative, which has produced multiple national team talents,to launching Airtel Trace Music Stars, Africa’s first digital music competition, Byuma consistently turned passion points into powerful brand differentiators.

Her earlier successes include masterminding the seamless rebranding from Zain to Airtel, the groundbreaking launch of mobile money service Zap, and the rollout of innovative products like the Youth Holla tariff.
