Ghana: Priority Insurance Company Limited appoints Mr. Abubakar Salifu Godmar as new General Manager, Marketing and Business Development

The Board of Directors of Priority Insurance Company Limited has appointed Mr. Abubakar Salifu Godmar as General Manager, Marketing and Business Development. Prior to this appointment, he was Head of Marketing and Business Development.

He joined Priority Insurance in September 2016 as the Takoradi Branch Manager. In Takoradi, the premium income of the Branch was nothing to write home about before he took over. He worked hard to improve the branch’s fortunes by opening agency offices, recruiting new agents, and increasing Corporate and Broker businesses.

In the early part of 2018 when premium production of the Kumasi Branch Office was declining, Management transferred him to Kumasi to revamp the office in terms of premium production.

With his aggressive marketing skills coupled with a friendly disposition, Mr. Abubakar quickly transformed the office within a space of six (6) months by increasing premium production through opening more agency offices, recruiting more agents and increasing Corporate and Broker businesses to a significant level.

In the latter part of 2018, Management transferred him to the Head Office to assist the then Head of Marketing and Business Development to increase the Company’s premium income. He was later appointed Acting Head of Marketing and Business Development when the position became vacant. He acted in that capacity for one year and was confirmed in 2019.

In 2021, Mr. Abubakar helped the Company to increase its premium production by 50%. In that same year, Priority Insurance recorded one of the highest Underwriting Profits in the Insurance Industry. The Company further went on to register 38th position on the Ghana Club 100, thus becoming the first General Insurance Company on the list of Ghana Club 100 in 2022 as presented by Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC).

Based on these achievements, Management recommended to the Board of Directors creation of the General Manager, Marketing and Business Development position. The Board subsequently gave its approval and Mr. Abubakar was appointed to occupy the newly-created position on January 1, 2023.

Mr.  Abubakar has over fifteen (15) years of experience in Insurance and Risk Management. In the past, he worked with KEK Insurance Brokers and Regency Alliance (Defunct). He holds a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration (Marketing option), Masters in Insurance and Business Continuity (MSc), Advanced Diploma, Sales and Marketing (LCM). He is also a qualified member of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (CIIG), an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), USA.

He is a proven leader and has the passion and dedication needed to drive business leads through the implementation of fully integrated marketing strategies and evolving risk techniques. He is also a strong advocate for using evolving technologies to drive sales.
