CMO OF THE WEEK: Matilda Nyathi of CBZ Holdings Limited

With more than two decades of experience in marketing, brand management and corporate communications, Matilda Nyathi built a trusted brand that requires compelling campaigns in Zimbabwe’s financial services landscape.

As the Group Chief Marketing and Corporate Affairs Officer at CBZ Holdings Limited, Nyathi has established herself as one of the nation’s most respected executives, where marketing demands strategic thinking, customer obsession and the ability to align brand reputation with business growth.

Therefore, it is more deserving that Nyathi be spotlighted as MarketingWorld Magazine’s CMO of the Week, as she leads the Group’s marketing and corporate affairs agenda, overseeing brand strategy, stakeholder engagement, corporate reputation, strategic partnerships, and customer communications across one of Zimbabwe’s largest financial institutions.

Her career reflects consistent growth across some of Zimbabwe’s leading financial institutions. Before joining CBZ Holdings’ executive team, she held senior marketing roles at CABS. She later served as Group Marketing Executive at Old Mutual Zimbabwe, experiences that have shaped her customer-centric approach to brand leadership.

What distinguishes Nyathi’s leadership is her belief that marketing should create meaningful customer value rather than simply promote products. Under her leadership, CBZ has continued to strengthen its brand positioning through customer-focused initiatives, integrated communications and strategic partnerships designed to deepen stakeholder trust and reinforce the institution’s market presence.

Beyond her corporate responsibilities, Nyathi continues to contribute to the broader marketing profession. She was recognized as the Champion Marketer of the Year by the Marketers Association of Zimbabwe, an honor that reflects her impact on the profession and her commitment to marketing excellence. She also serves as a Board Member and Chair of the Marketing and Brand Image Commission at the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee, where she supports efforts to elevate the organization’s brand and stakeholder engagement.
