Zambezi Trader launched;brings new luxury river cruises in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe’s tourism sector has welcomed a new era of luxury exploration with the official launch of The Zambezi Trader, a state-of-the-art river cruise vessel. The boutique ship promises to redefine travel along the iconic Zambezi River, offering an unprecedented blend of wilderness adventure and high-end comfort.

Setting sail from Msuna Island, downstream of the world-renowned Victoria Falls, the vessel will journey along the Zambezi into the vast expanse of Lake Kariba. Travelers can now book immersive 2-, 3-, or 4-night cruises to experience one of Africa’s great rivers in unparalleled style.

“We are proud to launch The Zambezi Trader as a new standard of excellence for Zimbabwean tourism,” announced Gavin Rennie, General Manager of Sales and Marketing. “This vessel opens up the Zambezi River in a way that’s never been done before — blending comfort, culture, and conservation into one unforgettable experience.”

A New Benchmark in River Cruising

Designed as a floating boutique hotel, The Zambezi Trader caters to a maximum of 66 guests across 29 elegantly appointed en-suite cabins, all featuring private balconies, air conditioning, and mosquito nets. The vessel’s layout is thoughtfully tiered across multiple decks:

  • A-Deck: Houses 16 twin cabins with panoramic river-view balconies.
  • B-Deck: Features five family suites accommodating up to four guests, alongside shared amenities including a dining area, lounge, bar, sun deck, and swimming pool.
  • C-Deck: Offers the height of luxury with eight king suites, granting exclusive access to a private lounge, bar, dining area, pool, and a dedicated viewing platform on D-Deck.

Immersive Onshore and River Excursions

Beyond the vessel’s comforts, the cruise experience is deepened by a curated selection of excursions. Guests will use smaller tender boats to navigate hidden bays and tributaries inaccessible to larger craft. The itinerary includes guided game viewing, birdwatching, and catch-and-release sports fishing.

Additional highlights feature classic sunset cruises, cultural visits to local fishing villages, and guided game drives within the nearby Kavira Forest Conservancy, ensuring a comprehensive exploration of the region’s natural and cultural heritage.

Accessible Luxury for All Travelers

The Zambezi Trader is positioned as a versatile option for the market, accepting bookings for individual cabins as well as full-vessel charters. This makes it an ideal choice for solo travelers, couples, families, and private groups. Convenient transfer services are available from key tourism hubs, including Victoria Falls Town and Hwange National Park.
